Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, a Pullman-based engineering company that employs about 5,100 individuals worldwide, relocated its Spokane employees in November 2017 to a building at 13518 E. Indiana Ave. in Spokane Valley. Schweitzer had purchased the building, which formerly housed ITT Technical Institute, in March. The building has been remodeled to house the company’s 70 Spokane-area employees, as well as provide additional space as the company expands its local operations to approximately 115 employees in the future.
Schweitzer employees in the Spokane area work in the following divisions: research and development, finance, marketing, sales, engineering, and corporate communications. The company opened its first Spokane branch in 2012 with six employees. A company spokesperson indicated that the move to Spokane Valley “made sense” because of its convenient access to Interstate 90 and proximity to nearby restaurants, shopping and hotels. In addition, the site is within commuting distance to its Pullman headquarters.
