Capital Improvement Projects

Sullivan Rd. Improvement

• Reconstruction of S. Sullivan Rd. from E. Sprague Ave. to E. 8th Ave.
• Anticipated construction dates: 05/22/23 – October 2023
• No turns from 4^th onto or off of Sullivan.
• Access local businesses through the work zone at designated entrances. 
• Traffic devices will direct traffic through work zone.

 Broadway Ave. Preservation

• Pavement preservation project that grinds and overlays Broadway Ave from Fancher Rd. to Thierman Rd.
• Anticipated construction dates: June 19^th – August 11^th. 
• One lane in each direction will be provided on Broadway for the duration of the project.
• Southbound lane of Thierman from Broadway to Mallon will be closed from August 4^th to August 8^th.
• Traffic devices will direct traffic through work zone.
• Access to businesses are open.

 8^th Ave Improvement

• Repaving, Stormwater, sidewalk upgrades between Carnahan and Park Rd
• New Sidewalk on north side of 8th between Thierman and Park
• Anticipated construction dates: 06/20/23 – September 2023
• 8^th Ave closed between Thierman and Park 
• Intermittent Flagging on 8^th Ave between Carnahan and Thierman

Local Access Streets - Summerfield Neighborhood Paving Project

• Pavement preservation project that removes and replaces asphalt for 10 local access streets in the Summerfield Neighborhood.
• 25 sidewalk access ramps will be improved.
• Anticipated construction dates: July 10^th – August 2023 
• Roads will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. 
• Traffic devices will direct traffic around the work zone.
• Access will remain open for local access.

Barker Rd at Union Pacific Railroad Crossing - Phase 2

• This paving project widens Euclid Ave and Barker Rd at the crossing of Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). 
• The project includes the addition of turn lanes; water, sewer, & stormwater utilities; a sidewalk on Euclid Ave.; and completion of the multi-use trail on Barker Road north of Euclid Ave to Trent.
• This final phase of the Barker Rd widening project requires coordination with the UPRR to replace the railroad tracks and crossing equipment.
• Anticipated construction dates: July 17^th – October 2023 
• Barker Road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project at the intersection of Euclid Ave in the vicinity of the Union Pacific Railroad; and Euclid Avenue will be closed between Barker Rd and Harmony Rd.
• Traffic devices will detour traffic around the work zone.
• Access will remain open for local access.
• During construction of the multi-use trail on Barker Road north of Euclid Ave to Trent, traffic control for a lane shift will be utilized to direct traffic through work zone.

Balfour Park Expansion

• Expansion of existing park north of Sprague Ave., east of Herald Rd. and west of Balfour Rd.
• Anticipated construction dates: 4/03/23-Late Fall 2023 (at least)
• New Impact starting Monday, July 24^th, 2023: Pedestrian detour for new sidewalk construction along the north side of Sprague Ave. from the Fire Department to the new Library until August 14th.  Pedestrian detour will be on the sidewalks/walkways along Balfour Rd. to Main Ave, along Main Ave. to Herald Rd., and along Herald Rd. back to Sprague Ave.

Broadway and Park Intersection Improvements

• Reconstructs the existing intersection with concrete pavement, replaces old signal system, storm water improvements and new sidewalk on the west side of Park Road.
• Anticipated construction dates: August 8th – October 2023 
• One lane in each direction will be provided on Broadway.
• Park Road between Broadway Ave and Cataldo Ave will be closed to through traffic.
• Park Road between Valleyway Ave and Broadway Ave will be closed to through traffic.
• Traffic devices will direct traffic through work zone.
• Access will be provided for property owners within the closure area.
• Businesses and Park Pool are open.

Cape Seal Pilot Project – University Place Neighborhood 

• Pavement Preservation project that adds chip seal surface treatment to existing residential asphalt roadways. 
• Anticipated construction date: August 7, 7am to 5pm.
• Roads closed throughout neighborhood except local traffic.
• Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
