Planning and Zoning
Responsibilities
The Planning and Zoning Division provides guidance and policy to manage the physical growth and development of the city. The division:
- Maintains the community's vision for growth in the city's Comprehensive Plan
- Reviews and revises the laws that regulate the use of property
- Administers both the subdivision code and the zoning ordinance.

Annexation of Property
Annexation is the procedure for bringing unincorporated areas of a county into an adjacent incorporated city.

Administrative Exception
An administrative exception may be considered only for adjustments necessary to correct errors resulting from the inadvertent and unintentional placement of structures or incorrect identification of lot boundaries in certain circumstances.

Critical Areas
Critical areas consist of wetlands, fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, geologically hazardous areas, and critical aquifer recharge areas.
