Killer Burger opened at 15705 E. Broadway in Spokane Valley. The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Portland-based restaurant chain has a restaurant in Hayden, Idaho, but this is the first location in the Spokane region. The restaurant provides a large menu of tasty burgers with a variety of toppings. (Nov. 20, 2023)

Cashmere, Washington-based Captain's Cod Company is relocating one of its food trucks to the Spokane area from Western Washington in mid-November. Best known for its fish and chips, cod sandwiches, cod fitters and clam chowder, the business was founded in 2019. The truck will be operating in Spokane Valley at various locations. (Nov 15, 2023)

Cali Fast Burrito, affiliated with the California Mexican Restaurant which already has a location in North Spokane, is opening a location at 6704 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley.  (Nov. 11, 2023)

Buchanan Construction will construct a 12 unit apartment complex just south of Interstate 90 near Costco in Spokane Valley. The $850,000 project should be open to house new tenants by April 2024. (Oct. 12, 2023)

West Coast Performance Co., a Spokane Valley-based builder of custom high-performance engines, has been growing in revenue annually and announced plans to move into a $3 million, 17,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 12205 E. Empire.

Skyline Homes, LLC, has started construction on a 32-unit apartment building in Spokane Valley along Frontage Road near Pines Road and Interstate 90. Shane Mercier, of Mercier Architecture & Planning of Spokane Valley, is the lead architect. The project is estimated to cost $5 million and should be completed by mid-year 2024.(Sept. 10, 2023)

A new Surf Thru Express Car Wash building will be constructed at 2120 N. Argonne Road. The owners is listed as Argonne Investments LLC. The cost of the project is $240,000. (Sept. 10, 2023)

A $17.3 million building permit has been approved for a Green Acres Distribution Center. The industrial building is estimated to be done in the third quarter of 2023.   (October 23,2022) 

Fireclay Tile, of California, announced it has acquired Spokane Valley-based Quarry Tile Co.  The goal for the acquisition is to expand Quarry’s products and manufacturing capabilities.  They are located at 6328 E. Utah Ave #1.  (October 6, 2022)  

The River Landing at Mirabeau, a six-unit, 5,100-square foot apartment building owned by Centennial Properties development rises.  It is unknown when the construction will finish.  (September 21,2022) 

City Hall has approved a building permit for a new $4.6 million, 24-unit apartment structure dubbed Splashdown Apartments to be constructed at 1624 N. Bowdish.  It will be in the place of the old Splashdown water park. (August 26, 2022) 

The Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center breaks ground on their facility.  The structure is the new home of the Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, which will be renamed to Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center when the project is complete. Idaho Central Credit Union purchased naming rights to the building. (August 16, 2022)

PODS (portable on demand storage) is moving in as the new tenant on a warehouse under construction at 4414 N. Barker Road.  They plan on taking up 70,000-square-feet of space out of 140,000.  An Amazon fulfillment center is now open about a mile from the site.  (June 21, 2022) 

Flight 509, an indoor amusement park is planning to open next spring.  The initial work has begun on the 22,000-square-foot site, $4.3 million located at 10502 E. Montgomery.  It will include laser tag, bumper cars, a ninja course, ropes course and more. (May 20,2022)  

The retailer Target has plans to renovate its store on 13724 E. Sprague with an estimated cost of $3 million.  Albertsons at 13606 E. 32nd has remodel plans costing about $500,000.  Mercer Mass Timber LLC plans to invest $50 million of  capital projects at the cross-laminated timber factory over the next two years; they are located  at 19202 E. Bake My Day, a drive thru bakery, is opening its second location at 18123 E. Appleway Avenue.  It’s original location is in Chattaroy.  They make scones, muffins, and half pound cinnamon rolls all with organic ingredients.  (May 15,2022)   

U-District Physical Therapy has moved one of its Valley locations from 5900 E. Fourth to 504 N. Barker.  The Barker location has more space.  (May 6, 2022) 

X-Golf, an indoor golf simulator,  is planning to open inside the former Carpet One store space at 15110 E Indiana Ave. Suite B.  They will open around September 2022 and feature a full bar and food menu.  (May 2, 2022)

A Starbucks location at 18707 E. Laberry Dr. is under construction.  The new building is next to the Greenacres Post Office.  (April 15, 2022) 

Magnolia Place, also known as Fields Senior Living, is a new 122,000-square-foot, 124-unit retirement community under construction at 16512 E. Desmet Court. The $20 million project will have 80 assisted-living units and 44 memory-care units once completed.  The community is expected to open March 2023. (April 13, 2022) 

Valley Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center is beginning construction on a new standalone 14,050-square-foot building and plan to move out of their Mission office. The new building is off of Mirabeau Pkwy in between Pines and Evergreen.  Construction is estimated to be done January 2023. (April 10, 2022)  

Affinity at Mirabeau, a senior-living community, is nearing completion.  This 180,000-square-foot facility plans to open in August and is located at 13525 E Carlisle Ave. (April 4, 2022)

The Spokane County Library District began construction on its new 28,000-square-foot  Spokane Valley library today.  The $15 million facility is  located at the northeast corner of Sprague Avenue and Herald Road.  City Hall,a partner with SCLD, plans to expand the nearby Balfour Park, developing a library-park campus.  The new library is scheduled to open in summer 2023.  (March 29,2022)

Hotworx, an infrared fitness studio, is opening a location at 1222 N. Pines Rd.  Customers work out in a sauna, but the sauna is heated through infrared light. (March 28,2022)

Unleashed Academy recently opened.  Their canine facility offers Autism and Psychiatric Service dogs for purchase to families as well as other dog  training classes .  The facility is at 16614 E. Sprague Ave. (March 24,2022)

Latah Creek Winery celebrates its 40th anniversary.  This 7,000-square-feet family business is located at 13030 E. Indiana and includes a warehouse, wine tanks, a tasting room and gift shop.  (March 17, 2022)

The Spokane Valley Fire Department plans to break ground on a $4.2 million, 14,400-square-foot maintenance center at 18705 E. Garland. (March, 14,2022).

In the Zone Sports Performance, is planned to take up 9,000-square-feet out of  13,000 in a new facility at 18915 E. Appleway.  The building is expected to be completed in May.  The other 4,000-square-feet will be occupied by Lighthouse Physical Therapy.   (Feb. 16, 2022)

Seaview Global, who designs and manufactures mounting solutions for marine electronics, has purchased 7,500-square-feet of industrial space at 2617 N. Pioneer Lane.  Studio Three, a new dance studio, signed a lease of 1,949-square-feet at 13817 E. Sprague Ave. Suite 4.   North Pines Chiropractic has leased 2,396-square-feet of space at 8817 E. Weber Dental Center will be moving into a multitenant building at 16212 E. Indiana.  Weber will be taking over 7,500-square-feet in one suite while the other 4,500 square feet will be available for lease.  (Jan. 12, 2022)

A new business focused on canine behavior modification is planned at 166414 E. Sprague Avenue. The company, Dogology NW/Unleashed Academy, has filed a pre-development application to construct a 10,500-square-foot training facility for service dogs, autism, therapy and emotional-support dogs. The development is estimated at $1.5 million. (Jan. 9, 2022)

No Drought Brewing Company has opened at 10604 E. 16th Ave., adjacent to Northwest Pizza Co. This neighborhood taphouse offers 16 taps with nine dedicated to “mainstay” brews. The business does not offers food at this time, but patrons can bring in pizza from next door. (Jan. 4, 2022)

CarbonQuest, headquartered in the City of Spokane Valley, has received a $350,000 grant from the Washington Department of Commerce to support expansion of an innovative clean technology that captures building-based carbon emissions. The grant will support an expansion of the company’s facility and potentially generate 100 plus jobs. (Dec. 16, 2021)

Hark’s Clubhouse, a baseball-themed restaurant, has opened at 12709 E. Mirabeau Parkway in the space that formerly housed Sams & Coffee.  The restaurant features baseball décor and serves burgers, cheesesteaks, hot dogs and fries. Alcohol and ice cream are also available. (Dec. 16, 2021)

A new furniture and bedding store called “16 Cents, 3 Shoes & 5 Socks”  has opened in a 20,000-square-foot retail space at 15303 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley. This is the fifth location for this chain of stores in the Spokane region, but the first in the valley. (Dec. 14, 2021)

The Spokane County Library District is seeking building permits for the construction of a new 27,440-square-foot library on nearly three acres at the northeast corner of Sprague Avenue and Herald Road, across from Spokane Valley City Hall. The project has been in the planning phase for some time and is funded with a state loan, fundraising contributions and $1.3 million of city funds. It should open in late 2022. (Dec 2021)

California-based retailer 5.11 Tactical is opening a store at 4808 E. Sprague Ave in Spokane Valley. The retailer will renovate a 5,490-square-foot space at a cost of $165,000. The store is expected to open in March 2022. (Dec. 5, 2021)

A PODS storage facility is planned at 6636 N Barker Road in the city’s northeast industrial area. The permit application includes construction of a 139,000-square-foot structure valued at $5 million. This would be the third PODS location in the region. (Nov. 2021)

Triad Machinery is constructing a new $4 million facility for sales, rental and services of heavy equipment at 19201 E. Garland in Spokane Valley’s northeast industrial area. The project is slated for completion in fall 2022. The company is moving from a leased site at 910 N. Theirman. (Nov 2021)

A Birkenstock retail store is planned for a retail space at 13826 E. Indian Avenue near Spokane Valley Mall. The city has issued a building permit for a 2,000-square-foot store to be renovated for opening next year. Birkenstock operates 54 company-owned stores worldwide, three of which are in the United States. (Nov. 14, 2021)

Well, just to brag a little…Spokane Valley was recently ranked #31 on a SmartAsset list of rapidly growing “boomtown” cities in the United States. The city was the only Inland Northwest city to be ranked in the study, which was based on population growth, GDP growth and unemployment rates. In addition, a National Association of Realtors study recently ranked the Spokane/Spokane Valley market as one of the top 10 markets that showed resilience during the pandemic. And, the Spokane-Spokane Valley market was recently ranked #3 on a list of top housing markets in 2022 published by realtor.com.  (Nov 2021)

The Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center, a new organization established by the Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, has announced plans to construct a $36 million performing arts center on a 5-acre parcel of property near CenterPlace Regional Events Center and Mirabeau Point Park. The group hopes to raise the necessary funds to begin construction in late 2022. The group also recently received the Governor’s Arts & Heritage Luminary Award. (Nov. 1, 2021)

Gus Johnson Ford, a mainstay in Spokane Valley, has sold to North Dakota-based Corwin Automotive Group. The business is changing name and will be called Corwin Ford Spokane. The 72 employees at Johnson Ford will be retained. (Oct. 18, 2021)

Amazon has officially opened its new fulfillment center in Spokane Valley, bringing more than 1,000 new jobs to the city. The facility includes 1.3 million square feet of storage and distribution space. (Sept. 8, 2021) 

Wake Up Call announced that it is opening a new coffee shop in a 1,344-square-foot space at 3105 N. Pines Road, which formerly housed Cole’s Coffee. Wake Up Call has nine other locations in the Spokane Region. (Sept. 5, 2021)

STCU will open its third Spokane Valley location on Sept. 1 at 9209 E. Mission Ave. The credit union purchased the site back in 2012 and demand for a full-service branch in the city has steadily increased since it opened its Argonne Home Loan Center in 2018. (Aug. 31, 2021)

The Spokane Valley Fire Department will construct a new $4.2 million vehicle maintenance facility at 18705 E. Garland Ave. in the city’s northeast industrial area. The proposed 14,400-square-foot facility is on 8 acres. The site is capable of accommodating a future fire station and additional storage/training buildings. (Aug. 29, 2021)

Pint House Burgers & Brews in Spokane is adding a second location at 9214 E. Mission in Spokane Valley. The site formerly housed the Goodtymes Bar and Grill. The owners are remodeling and hoping to open the second site by the end of the year. (Aug. 18, 2021)

A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is under construction at 209 N. Sullivan in Spokane Valley. This will be the third Chipotle location in the Spokane region. (Aug. 9, 2021)

Mercer International Inc., based in Vancouver, Canada, has received approval from a U.S. bankruptcy court to purchase the 270,000-square-foot, cross-laminated timber manufacturing plant in Spokane Valley owned by Katerra. Katerra opened the factory in 2020. The purchase price is $50 million. (Aug. 2021)

Spokane Valley-based Cascade Windows at 10507 E. Montgomery Drive has been acquired by Cornerstone Building Brands Inc. for $245 million. Cascade manufactures vinyl widows and doors for residential construction, repair and remodel markets. It employs more than 800 workers at six manufacturing and three distribution facilities on the West Coast. It appears the Cascade brand will be retained. (Aug. 3, 2021)

Liberty Lake Athletic Club and U-District Physical Therapy will construct a new 10,000-square-foot building on 504 N. Barker Road in Spokane Valley. The athletic club will utilize 6,000 square feet of space, leaving the physical therapy center to use the remaining space. They hope to complete the project in late 2021. (July 29, 2021)

Northwest Offset Printing in Spokane Valley is expanding its regional and national footprint after relocating to a new facility at 19223 E. Euclid. The business, owned by Cowles Publishing Co., prints the Spokesman-Review and the Journal of Business, among other regional and national publications. (May 20, 2021)

MacKay Manufacturing has launched its own in-house education program in an effort to ensure the company has the necessary workforce to grow its operation. The Spokane Valley company manufactures medical tools and instruments in its massive machine shop. (May 20, 2021)

A new indoor playground called “We Play” is being constructed in the Spokane Valley Mall. The 5,480-square-foot, two-level playground will feature slides, ball blasters, a zip line, trampoline and other climbing equipment. (May 12, 2021)

Ashley Furniture has opened an outlet store at 13414 E. Sprague Ave, a site that was formerly home to ShopKo. This is the second Ashley Furniture business owned by Kondolas Furniture of Washington.  (May 2021)

Washington State was ranked as the best state in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in a new report released in March 2021. Washington has held the top ranking since 2019. The publication annually ranks all 50 states across a myriad of categories, such as health care, opportunity, the economy and education.(March 2021)

Crown West Realty, LLC, has acquired a 39-acre parcel of industrial land near the corner of Barker and Euclid Roads and plans to develop a multi-building industrial park named the Barker Logistics Center.  (March 24, 2021)

Casual Friday Donuts has opened at 325 S. Sullivan Road in the Valley. In addition to donuts, the cafe offers salads , sandwiches, soups and a selection of wines and local brews. (March 2021)

A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is under construction at 209 N. Sullivan Road. This will be the third Chipotle grill in the Spokane Region. The restaurant should open in summer 2021. (March 2, 2021)

CenterPlace Regional Event Center in Spokane Valley has added a new outdoor hardscape “event” plaza on its west lawn. The new space is a key part of the City of Spokane Valley’s $2.2 million in upgrades to the facility. The new space can host community events, theatre performances, outdoor movies, food trucks and more. (Feb. 25, 2021)

Amazon has confirmed that it is constructing a 1.6 million-square-foot fulfillment center currently underway in Spokane Valley. The new facility, estimated to cost more than $150 million, has been dubbed Project Fireball and is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs when it opens later this year. (Feb. 18, 2021)

A new phase of the Ace Business Park is under construction in the 15000 block of E. Marietta, just west of N. Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley. The park will include three buildings with space for several new businesses as well as the headquarters/operations for Ace Landscaping. (Feb. 2021)

A new Atilano’s Mexican Food restaurant has opened at 901 N. Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley. This is the 7th Atilano’s to open in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene corridor. (Feb. 2021)

Bumble Bar, a manufacturer of energy bars and other flavored snacks in Spokane Valley, has launch “Clean Copack,” a new co-packing service that allows the manufacturer to create and package another customer’s proprietary product. The company’s revenue grew by more than 90 percent in 2020 to about $7 million. (Feb 7, 2021)

The City of Spokane Valley and Spokane County are partnering to propose a $10 million expansion to the Fair and Expo Center. The new 32,000-square-foot building would connect to the northwest side of the existing Expo Center and expand the facility’s ability to host trade shows and events through the year, as well as host an on-site restaurant. Coast Aluminum and Architectural Inc., a California-based company, has moved into its new 73,500-square-foot distribution warehouse and attached 3,200 square foot office space in Spokane Valley’s Pinecroft Business Park. Coast Aluminum fabricates metal and alloy products. (Jan. 2021)

The Tru Hotel by Hilton Spokane Valley opened in late December. The new hotel marks the first Tru by Hilton property in the state. Spokane-based GL8 Hospitality LLC is operating the four-story, 43,000-square-foot at 13509 E. Mansfield Ave. The hotel is located adjacent to CenterPlace Regional Event Center. (Dec. 29, 2020)

Western States Equipment Co. plans to build a new heavy-equipment dealership at 20150 E. Cataldo Ave, about a quarter-mile east of the boundary between Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake. The authorized Caterpillar dealer based in Meridian, Idaho, will construct a $30 million, 127,360-square-foot dealership campus that includes rental, retail and repair facilities. No word on when the new facility will be open. (Dec. 22, 2020)

Spokane Teachers Credit Union (STCU) plans to construct a new 3,100 square foot branch location at  9209 E. Mission Ave. in Spokane Valley. The new branch is scheduled to open in late 2021. STCU currently operates its Argonne Home Loan Center and drive-through ATMs at the same location. The new Argonne Branch will the 30th location for STCU, which the largest credit union based in Eastern Washington with more than 210,000 members. (Dec. 7, 2020)

The Spokane County Library District plans to construct a new Spokane Valley library in 2022 on an empty lot bordering Balfour Park, across the street from Spokane Valley City Hall. It would replace the current Spokane Valley Library on Main Ave. The Washington State Department of Commerce has recommended the district receive a $2 million grant from the state to build the library. The district will receive it if the State Legislature approves the funds in the 2021 legislative session. (Dec. 2020)

MultiCare Health System will open a new Pulse Heart Institute center in MultiCare Valley Hospital at 12606 E. Mission. The Pulse center will allow the hospital to expand its cardiac rehabilitation services. It will serve patients recovering from heart attacks, placement of stents, cardiac bypass surgeries, heart valve surgeries and treatments, and heart transplants. The Center will open on Jan. 25, 2021. (Dec. 3, 2020)

The Ponderosa Bar & Grill has opened at 11205 E. Dishman-Mica Road near Barney’s Harvest Foods in Spokane Valley. The restaurant is described as a hometown restaurant specializing in the comfort food. The ponderosa is a project from the same owner as The Otis Grill in Otis Orchards, Wash. (Nov. 2020)

Rodda Paint Co. has reopened at 6818 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley in a new $1.3 million building. Rodda had occupied a building previously located on the site until it was destroyed by a fire in February 2019. Walls Construction Corp., of Spokane, was the general contractor. (Nov. 2020)

Mygrant Glass Co. is building a new a 105,600-square-foot warehouse and office on 7 acres of land at 3619 N. Barker Road. The Hayward, California-based company has filed a building permit application with the city to construct the facility. Mygrant Living Trust purchased the site on Barker from Centennial Properties Inc. for $1.1 million in September 2020. (Oct. 26, 2020)

The Spokane Business & Industrial Park in Spokane Valley is developing its second phase of the Euclid Logistics Center, a multibuilding industrial development. Crown West Realty, owner and manager of The Park, has filed a building permit application to construct a 120,000-square-foot LEED-certified structure at 16619 E. Euclid Ave. with cross-dock capacity and 135 truck courts. The building permit valuation is $6.7 million. The building could be ready for occupancy as soon as spring 2021. (Oct 18, 2020)

Burlington has opened a new store in a 30,400-square-foot space at 15505 E. Broadway in Spokane Valley. The store opened on Oct. 16 in a site that formerly housed Toys-R-Us. It is Burlington’s second store in the Spokane area. Burlington, a New Jersey-based retailer, filed plans with the city in November 2019 to complete more than $1.4 million in renovations to the space, which has been vacant since Toys-R-Us closed in 2018. Pure Wax Bar has opened a full-service body waxing boutique at 325 S. Sullivan, in Spokane Valley. The boutique is equipped with six private rooms in an office suite that’s just a little more than 1,500 square feet. (Sept. 24, 2020)

Chipotle Mexican Grill is continuing its expansion in the region with a new restaurant in Spokane Valley. Chipotle has applied for a permit to renovate an existing building at 209 N. Sullivan Road into a 2,700-square-foot restaurant. When completed, this will be the restaurant’s third location in the Spokane region. Project renovations are valued at $540,000. (Sept. 20, 2020)

Peoples Injury Network Northwest has opened a clinic at 15909 E. Marietta Ave., Suite 110, in Spokane Valley. The clinic will assist injured workers with returning to their jobs through programs that include work conditioning, physical and occupational therapy, functional capacity evaluations and ergonomic evaluations, among other treatments. Based in Kent, Washington, PINN has eight clinics in Western Washington, in addition to the Spokane Valley location. (Sept. 15, 2020)

Spokane Valley-based etailz has rebranded to Kaspien, reflecting the company’s growth from third-party retailer to e-commerce solution for brands growing their online businesses on Amazon, Walmart, eBay and Google. The company, which operates as a retailer, agency and software provider, secured more than $30 million in financing earlier this year to develop new products, expand inventory and grow retail partnerships. Kaspien’s parent company, Trans World Entertainment Corp., has rebranded as Kaspien Holdings Inc. (Sept. 8, 2020)

Spokane Valley-based Mamer Properties LLC is planning a new three-building, 41,200-square-foot addition to its Evergreen Commerce Park on a 4.5-acre vacant lot at 1620 N. Mamer Road near the northeast corner of Mission Avenue and Mamer Road. The complex is envisioned to be developed next to three existing multitenant commercial structures that Mamer Properties developed in the early 1990s. The three buildings are planned to host up to 23 units, with two to three of the units being built out during initial construction and the remaining 20 over time. The Spokane Conservation District has broken ground on its planned new facility at 4422 E. Eighth, in Spokane Valley. The project will be a 10-year multi-phase development. The first phase, a 12,350-square-foot building, is under construction and valued at $4.3 million. The district had purchased the nearly 50-acre site at the southeast corner of Eighth Avenue and Havana Street in May 2017 for $1.3 million from CPM Development Corp. Site cleanup and restoration has been ongoing since the purchase. (Aug. 27, 2020)

Key Tronic Corp., a Spokane Valley-based contract design and manufacturing services provider, has entered into a $93 million loan and security agreement with Bank of America. Key Tronic recently obtained a line of credit that will aid in the company’s anticipated growth and provide more flexibility to ramp up production. (Aug. 19, 2020)

Indaba Coffee is moving its coffee roasting operations from Spokane to a 1,700-square-foot warehouse at 204 S. Koren in Spokane Valley. The company plans to grow the e-commerce and wholesale space from that location. Other plans for that space include expanding shipping capacity, creating a training facility for new hires, and constructing a small tasting room and possible event space in the future. Enhanced Software Products Inc. (ESP), a Spokane Valley software company that focuses on credit unions, is expanding its client roster. The company is located in a 9,000-square-foot building at 1811 Hutchinson Road and handles a range of services for credit unions, including accounts processing, auto-responses, and printing and mailing materials. They recently took on Avista Corp. Credit Union, the first local credit union as a client, and will be expanding their workforce. (Aug. 2020)

Community Pint is planning to remodel a space for a new brewery and tasting room in Spokane Valley, according to a recent permit recently.  Owner TJ Wallin plans to update the facility and build out a bar and serving area in a 2,300-square-foot space at 11724 E. Montgomery Ave., Suite D7, according to the permit. The project is valued at $30,000. No information available regarding when the business will open. (July 19, 2020)

Kitchen Spokane, a nonprofit organization that provides commercial kitchen space to help food entrepreneurs launch and maintain their businesses, is adding a new location in the Spokane Valley Mall. Kitchen Spokane launched its Spokane Valley-based standalone facility in 2014. The nonprofit aims to help small businesses start operating at a fraction of the normal cost; it has grown to include five additional kitchen locations in Washington and Idaho, most of which are located in malls. Comcast has opened a new store in Evergreen Crossing Shopping Center at 13826 E. Indiana Ave. in Spokane Valley. The store has a dedicated space for customers to discuss technology needs with an expert, turn in used equipment, obtain customer support and pay their bills. The new store spans more than 3,600 square feet and offers the complete line of home and business products. (July 2, 2020)

AutoZone is opening in the Argonne Village Shopping Center in Spokane Valley. The Memphis, Tennessee-based automotive parts retailer applied for a building permit with the city to remodel a 7,334-square-foot existing space into a new store at 9211 E. Montgomery Ave. Founded in 1979, AutoZone has five stores in the Spokane area and more than 6,300 stores in the United States, Mexico and Brazil. (June 7, 2020)

Spokane-Valley based SkyOne Aerospace has received a $100,000 Working Washington grant that allows the company to expand, add new equipment and hire more employees. The Washington State Department of Commerce provided the $100,000 grant to Greater Spokane Incorporated, the region’s business development organization, which awarded the funds to SkyOne. SkyOne specializes in repair and overhaul of instruments, avionics, electronics, mechanical units and hydraulic units of the military aerospace aftermarket. The company was founded in 2015. It will retain 18 jobs and create 45 new positions in the next three years resulting from the grant. (June 12, 2020)

Crimson Hearth restaurant has opened at 11003 E. Sprague Ave. in a space formerly occupied by the Prime Time Bar & Grill. The restaurant offers a menu that features breakfast items such as tarteflette (cheesy potatoes), crepes, eggs Benedict and fresh-squeezed orange juice. The restaurant’s lunch and dinner menus offer steaks, sandwiches, burgers, pastas and a variety of hearth-oven baked pizzas, among other dishes. (March 3, 2020)

Spokane-Valley based Etailz has secured $25 million in debt financing to develop new products, expand inventory and grow retail partnerships. The new round of financing will specifically allow the Spokane Valley-based company – which partners with third-party sellers to grow their brands on Amazon, eBay and Walmart – to improve its proprietary software that discovers product trends, identifies new distributors and optimizes price positioning decisions. Snap Fitness has opened at Ponderosa Village, 11205 E. Dishman Mica Road, in Spokane Valley. Snap Fitness is a health and fitness club founded in 2003 by Peter Taunton. It has more than 2,500 clubs in 27 countries, with nine gyms total in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. (Jan. 22, 2020)

Airgas, a distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gasses as well as welding and safety products, has filed permits to build a 9,700-square-foot building near the southwest corner of Fancher Road and Desmet Avenue. Airgas has a dry-ice store near the Spokane Industrial Park, but its closest branch is in Moses Lake. (Jan. 3, 2020)

Coast Aluminum and Architectural Inc., a California-based company, is planning a new 73,500-square-foot distribution warehouse and office space in Spokane Valley’s Pinecroft Business Park. Coast Aluminum fabricates metal and alloy products and also has a site in the Spokane Industrial Park. (Dec. 20, 2019)

A 180-000-square-foot senior living development titled “Affinity” is planned for a 6-acre site at Mirabeau Point area, just east of CenterPlace Regional Event Center in Spokane Valley. Spokane-based Inland Group is the developer. (Dec. 13, 2019)

Salt Lake City-based Maverik Inc. has announced it will build a convenience store and gas station at 2020 N. Pines Road in Spokane Valley, just off of Interstate 90. The new store will be the company’s fourth location in the city. Maverik has 315 stores in 10 Western states. (Dec. 13, 2019)

Sandpoint Chocolate Bear has opened shop at 11425 E. Trent Ave. in Spokane Valley. The business relocated to Spokane Valley in late fall after a fire devastated its shop in downtown Sandpoint, Idaho, in February 2019. (Dec. 5, 2019)

Novelis Inc., an Atlanta-based company that specializes in the rolling and recycling of aluminum, is planning a $5 million, 11,780-square-foot expansion to its Solatens Technology Center in Spokane Valley. The company relocated to its current facility at 16004 E. Euclid Ave in 2011. No word on if or how many additional employees the expansion may generate. (Nov. 2019)

If you haven’t visited Arbor Crest Wine Cellars’ historic Cliff House recently, you may not know that a brewery has opened at the facility. Square Wheel Brewing is making about 300 barrels of beer a year in several varieties. Cliff House visitors can now choose from both great wines and local brews. (Nov. 2019)

Burlington has filed preliminary plans to open a retail store in Spokane Valley at 15505 E. Broadway, a space that formerly housed a Toys r Us. The company, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, has indicated it will spend $1.4 million to remodel and update the space, including the front facade. Burlington already has one store in the Spokane area at North Division. No word yet on when this store will open. (Nov. 9, 2019)

Ladder Coffee & Toast plans to open a new shop in a shared space with Canopy Credit Union at 13105 E. Sprague Ave. Canopy had announced earlier in the year that another coffee business would share the space, but those plans fell through over the summer. This will be Ladder’s first location in Spokane Valley. (Nov. 4, 2019)

Global Credit Union will construct a new 2,500-square-foot branch in Spokane Valley at 12219 E. Fourth Ave. Global was founded in 1954, has six branches and several other ATM/service centers in the region. (Oct. 4, 2019)

Katerra Inc. celebrated the opening of its $150 million manufacturing facility on Barker Road in Spokane Valley in late September. The company began constructing the 270,000-square-foot facility more than 18 months ago. At startup, the plant employs about 100 workers. (Sept 2019)

Additional housing is going up in the city. Broadway Orchards LLC has announced it will construct a $12 million apartment complex at 16708 E. Broadway Ave. in Spokane Valley. The complex will include four 25,000-square-foot units, seven garages and a separate clubhouse. (Sept. 13, 2019)

Anytime Fitness has opened a center at 13004 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley. The new 6,000-square-foot gym offers a variety of fitness equipment and coaching and training services. The center is the second to open in the valley, joining several others in the area. (Sept 2019)

Action Fasteners & Supply has constructed a new 47,600-square-foot warehouse building at 15825 E. Trent in Spokane Valley. The $2.9 million building will be shared with Purfect Logos LLC. Launched in 1994, Action Fasteners provides large quantities of screws, bolts, nuts, ties, and other fasteners to commercial contractors and retail customers. (Aug. 21, 2019)

Also at 17018 E. Sprague is Genus Brewing, a new microbrewery. The business sold only homebrewing supplies, but expanded into a full brewing operation over the summer. (Aug. 17, 2019)

River City Pizza has opened at 17018 E. Sprague in Spokane Valley. Similar to its flagship restaurant on Harvard Road in Otis Orchards, the new location offers a full menu of pizzas, (including by the slice and take out), wings, calzones and other Italian favorites. The site is in the same building that houses Genus Brewing (see above paragraph). (Aug. 17, 2019)

A popular restaurant in Spokane that closed due to fire more that a year ago has reopened in Spokane Valley. Shogun, a sushi and hibachi restaurant, has reopened at 20 N. Raymond Road. It will feature 14 Japanese teppanyaki grills with seating for eight people at each table, as well as a lounge, sushi counter and separate room for corporate and private parties. (Aug. 14, 2019)

A new Ethiopian restaurant will be coming to Spokane Valley at 19017 E. Appleway Ave. within the next year. Kaffa Ethiopian Cafe is in the planning stage of opening an establishment that will feature Ethiopian coffee (with a drive up window included) and several vegetarian options. (Aug. 10, 2019)

Bardic Brewing has announced plans to open a new taproom in a 1000-square-foot space in Sullivan Square Shopping Center, 15412 E. Sprague Ave., in Spokane Valley. The family-friendly brewpub will offer both beer and cider, craft soda and a rotating selection of tacos, pasta and pizza. (Aug. 10, 2019)

TTs Old Iron Brewery & BBQ has opened in south Spokane Valley at 4110 S. Bowdish Road (corner of Bowdish and Dishman-Mica). The establishment is the brainchild of friends Travis Thosath and Chad White (White is a well-known chef who owns other restaurants in Spokane area). The restaurant offers a mix of Texas and Kansas City barbecue flavored meats and handhelds, as well as locally-inspired brewed beer. (Aug. 1, 2019)

MultiCare Health System will build a new 81-000-square-foot medical building in Spokane Valley. The Tacoma-based company will construct the building on the northwest corner of Boone Avenue and Vercler Road. The new facility will include a skywalk connecting to the second floor of the hospital, according to site plans filed with the city. MultiCare is a nonprofit with more than 16,000 employees.

The new Ponderosa Village retail development at 11205 E. Dishman Mica Road in south Spokane Valley welcomed two new tenants recently.  The Mix Salon and Day Spa and Hello Sugar doughnut shop (a second location in addition to the first Hello Sugar in Kendall Yards, Spokane) both celebrated grand openings in early July. The development is anchored by Barney’s Harvest Foods and will include two additional multi-tenant buildings in the next three years. (July 31, 2019)

A new Tru hotel by Hilton will be constructed on a three-acre site at the northeast corner of Mansfield Avenue and Mirabeau Parkway in Spokane Valley. The 43,000-square-foot, four-story hotel is described as a boutique hotel aimed at younger travelers. Hilton’s Tru hotels offer mobile check-in, digital room keys, lobby tablets and public spaces for guests. There are 60 Tru hotels nationwide. (July 15, 2019)

A vacant building at 8412 E Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley will soon be transformed into an auto dealership and showroom. Florida-based AutoNation will renovate the former Mazda and Mitsubishi car dealership into a new 19,000-square-foot showroom, including an electric car charging station. The one acre site is owned by Appleway Chevrolet. (July 12, 2019)

Krueger Sheet Metal has announced plans to construct a manufacturing facility and warehouse in Spokane Valley. The company, currently based in Spokane, intends to construct a 60,000-square-foot building on 37 acres of land in the city’s northeast industrial area. The company indicated it may build an additional two warehouses in the future. Krueger has offices in Seattle and east Spokane. (June 28, 2019)

Wagstaff Inc., a Spokane Valley-based manufacturer, is constructing a $5.8 million, 55,900-square-foot addition to its main facility at 3910 N. Flora. The new building will accommodate the aluminum casting equipment manufacturer’s shipping department and allow it to expand its product lines. (June 26, 2019)

Seattle-based Leavitt Capital Companies is constructing the Montgomery Logistics Center on a nine-acre parcel of land in Spokane Valley. The center is a multi-phase industrial development at 11002 E. Montgomery Drive that will include three buildings totaling more than 139,000 square feet. The new development will adjacent to Leavitt Capital’s 50-acre Central Business Park, which is home to Pepsi Co., Cascade Seed and Wolff Corporate Housing. (June 16, 2019)

The Wolff Company, an Arizona-based private equity firm and multifamily developer, has completed construction of Revel Spokane in Spokane Valley. Located alongside the Spokane River, Revel Spokane features 132 units in one- and two-bedroom layouts. The community opened in March 2019.  (June 12, 2019)

Rodda Paint in Spokane Valley has moved its business to a new building at 409 N. Thierman Road, choosing to remain in the city after a fire burned its previous store at 6818 E. Sprague Avenue in February 2019. The new paint store opened in early June. (June 8, 2019)

River City Pizza and Genus Brewing and Supply will open shop in August 2019 in a new building at the corner of Sprague and Flora in Spokane Valley. This will be River City Pizza’s second location in the city – the first being at N. Harvard Road in the Otis Orchards neighborhood. Genus opened as Nu Home Brew and Bottles in 2013 in a nearby location and is seeking additional space at the new facility. (May 30, 2019)

Northeast Spokane Valley has a new bakery/coffee shop in the neighborhood. Blissful Whisk opened at 1612 N. Barker, sharing a new building space with Lakeside Dental offices. The bakery offers a variety of muffins, cookies, cakes and other specialty items. (May 25, 2019)

The Spokane Valley Farmers Market, new this year to CenterPlace Regional Event Center, is seeking vendors and volunteers. The Market will launch on Friday, June 7, and continue through Sept. 13. It runs from 5-8 p.m. and includes are farms, food processors, artisan crafters, a beer garden, music and food trucks. (May 20, 2019)

Worth noting, Spokane Valley’s PayTrace has been named as a “best” financial-technology company to work for in 2019. In 2018, the company was identified on the list of “best place(s) to work in the Inland Northwest.” PayTrace opened its headquarters/offices in the Pinecroft Business Park in Spokane Valley in May 2017. (March 2019)

Spokane Metals, a steel fabrication company, will relocate its operations from Airway Heights to Spokane Valley later this year. The company will construct a $2.4 million facility at 4100 N. Barker Road in Spokane Valley’s growing northeast industrial area. The company cited that fact that most of its employees live in the valley as a factor in the decision to relocate. (March 9, 2019)

The Spokane County Regional Veterans Service Center has relocated to a larger facility in Spokane Valley to serve veterans and their families. The center was previously housed at the county’s regional health building, but needed additional space that was ADA accessible and had free parking. The new location is 1117 N. Evergreen Road. Spokane-based electronics manufacturer Tate Technology will relocate from North Spokane to an 18,000-square-foot building at 5716 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane Valley in August 2019. The company formerly occupied a building on Trent Avenue but had to move to make way for Spokane’s North-South Corridor project. Tate affiliate JBH Holdings LLC purchased the new building, which previously housed a Great Spaces furniture store, last year for $1.5 million. Washington State Employees Credit Union has moved to a new branch location at 5211 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane Valley. The credit union completed more than $320,000 in renovations on the building, which sits in a busy commercial area and will feature improvements such as two drive-thru windows, coin machine, and additional ATM service. (March 1, 2019)

Greenacres Vendor Mall is expanding its footprint! The mall, which offers antiques and other handmade goods from more than 160 different vendors, is embarking on a 3,500 square foot extension that will feature a cafe/bistro, art gallery, salon, and more vendor space. The Spokesman-Review Newspaper has announced that it will move its print publishing operations from downtown Spokane to a new building in the 19200 block of East Euclid Avenue in Spokane Valley’s northeast industrial area. The Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park has opened at 15312 E. Sprague Avenue. This indoor “urban playground” of sorts offers trampoline-related activities and games, including dodgeball and slam dunk, as well as a video arcade and Top Golf Swing Suite. Amy’s Donuts, a national donut chain that serves unique creations, celebrated the opening of its first donut shop in Spokane Valley (and first in Washington State) with a grand opening on Nov. 1.
